The first decent image was this Grizzled Skipper:

Then we saw a snake:

Adder

This lovely female Adder was a bit of a tease, but we all eventually got some great images of her.

Then this happened:

The first time I have witnessed Male and female Adders in courtship! Wow!

Birthday Present http://oscarwildlife.zenfolio.com/blog/2013/5/birthday-present The Mullein Following a large portion of curry the conversation soon turned to moths as Pete dashed outside and quickly potted up this Mullein.

It has been quite a few years since I've recorded this moth from my garden, I hope it won't be as long until next time.

A Powdered Quaker was also a first for the year.

1.5 mile radius from my house http://oscarwildlife.zenfolio.com/blog/2013/1/1-5-mile-radius-from-my-house ]]> howard.orridge@hotmail.co.uk (OscarWildlife) http://oscarwildlife.zenfolio.com/blog/2013/1/1-5-mile-radius-from-my-house Wed, 02 Jan 2013 19:34:17 GMT 2013 Photo Challenge http://oscarwildlife.zenfolio.com/blog/2012/12/2013-photo-challenge So with no Pork Pie Posse Photo Competition for this year, I have decided to try and photograph 200 different species in my garden.

I have no doubt that most of these will be the "prettier" moths (or all of them if the new year is the same as 2012) but I hope to add a few birds and other insects as well.

Rain in Rutland, but Yellowhammers and Grey Partridge save the day! http://oscarwildlife.zenfolio.com/blog/2012/11/rain-in-rutland-but-yellowhammers-and-grey-partridge-save-the-day Mark and I had another Sunday at Rutland Water - my second visit in 2 weeks and only my second birdwatching visit in the last 3 years!

The rain made for a very moody morning, but it was nice to spend some time in the hides at Lyndon, sheltering from the rain and watching some of common wildfowl and grebes.

There had been a Ring-necked Duck with the tufties but we didn't get to see it, but the views of drenched Tree Sparrows and Soggy Shovelers was worth the strenuous effort that I have to put in to walking at the moment.

Having had a short time out at Egleton - lagoon 1 was deserted! we decided to check on habitat for Short Eared Owls nearer home.

We are a little doubtful that there will be many if any SEO's this winter at Burton as the field margins have no grass or uncut crop to hold shrews or voles, but we did find a covey of about 15 Grey Partridges and a superb finch flock of c150 (mainly) Yellowhammers but with plenty of Tree Sparrows, some Greenfinch's, a handful of Goldfinch's and also a few Long-tailed tits were apparently tagging along.

Starlings were making their way south - presumably to a roost, whilst Common and BH Gulls were harrassed by Crows on the fields.

Roll on Summer 2013!

Birmingham Grand Prix (Diamond League) with 42 Olympic Medalists http://oscarwildlife.zenfolio.com/blog/2012/9/birmingham-grand-prix-diamond-league-with-42-olympic-medalists I've just uploaded a random selection of photo's of this superb event.

We had the pleasure of sitting next to Barbora Spotakova (after she had thrown her Javelin out of the stadium)The double Olympic Champion and current World Record Holder signed our program and asked Mikey to sit next to her for a photo.

Mo Farah, Greg Rutherford and Robbie Grabarz were on show along with Hannah England, Aries Merritt and a legend of 100m sprinting Tyson Gay who looked straight down my lens! Spearmon, Bailey and Gemili made the running in the 200m with Gay but the race winner was Martina.

Carmelita Jeter easily saw off Shelley-Ann fraser-Pryce in the 100m - but they both looked great!

What superb vision I had to book front row tickets after my Olympic rejection.

We had a great day out watching some of the best athletes not only in GB but also the world. Only missing Bolt, Blake, Pearson and Ennis!

Thank you Birmingham we might have to make a regular date.

Mikey with Barbora Spotakova
